Where Young Choreographers Find Their Voice

Every dancer has a story to tell. This 4-week mentorship program is designed for young movers ages 13–18 who are ready to step behind the curtain and into the creative process — exploring what it means to not just perform, but to create.

Developed in collaboration between Little Women Ballet Company and Pasadena Civic Ballet, the Choreography Mentorship Program nurtures emerging voices in dance through storytelling, musicality, and creative leadership. In a supportive, judgment-free environment, students will learn the foundations of choreographic craft and create original works of their own.

Whether you've been dreaming of choreographing your first piece or you're simply curious about what goes into making a dance — this program is for you.

What You'll Experience

Over four weeks, you'll be mentored through every stage of the choreographic process — from the first spark of an idea to a finished piece on stage.

Storytelling

Learn how to shape a narrative through movement. What do you want to say, and how can your choreography say it?

Musicality

Explore the relationship between music and movement — how rhythm, dynamics, and silence become tools for expression.

Creative Leadership

Develop confidence directing other dancers, giving and receiving feedback, and trusting your artistic instincts.

Original Works

Create your own choreography from start to finish, with hands-on guidance and mentorship every step of the way.

Dancers Ready to Create

This program is open to dancers ages 13–18 of all backgrounds. You don't need choreography experience — just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to explore.

You might be a great fit if you're someone who:

Finds yourself imagining dances in your head — to songs, to stories, to feelings you can't quite name
Wants to understand what goes into making a piece of choreography, not just learning one
Is looking for a space where creative risks are celebrated, not judged
Dreams of sharing your own artistic voice through dance

From Studio to Stage

The program culminates in a studio presentation where family and friends can see what they've created.

Solo Fête 2026

One outstanding work from the program will be selected to be presented at Pasadena Civic Ballet's Solo Fête 2026 performance — a wonderful opportunity to share your choreography with an even wider audience.
